War breaks lives. Threads mend them.
Ludmila Christeseva began organizing exhibitions and workshops in weaving, baking, stitching, and repairing for Ukrainian families and Swedish citizens, creating spaces shaped by shared experiences of migration and conflict.
She is the founder of the Artten Foundation and of the women-led collective Roses of Ties, where personal experiences of loss and displacement are transformed into a unique art collection. The eponymous Roses of Ties are handcrafted artworks made from recycled ties, each carrying personal memories and stories, transformed into brooches worn close to the heart in Sweden and around the world. The collection heals not only one heart, but many.
The growing collection has been presented at institutions and international platforms, including:
Armemuseum
Livrustkammaren
Oslo Freedom Forum
Sustainability Fair
Sewing and Crafts Festival
Stockholm Craft Week
Stockholm Design Week
Stockholm Cultural Night
Kulturfestivalen
Christeseva’s work has received international recognition, including a nomination for the Nelson Mandela Prize 2026 and the Impact of the Year award by IHM Business School 2023.
